Support Engineers / Developers
Index Data
Boston

Index Data is looking for developers to be part of our
operations and support team.

We provide SaaS services and locally installed solutions for a broad range of
library technology (and related) companies and other organizations around the
world. Among other tasks, you will be working directly with our customers to
help them keep their systems healthy, and to assist in fault-finding and
debugging when necessary. You will also assist in developing connectors for
hard-to-reach databases using our visual systems integration technology. You
will also assist with ad hoc programming to facilitate testing, custom
solutions, etc.

You need to be able to work from home although occasional site visits and team
meetings do happen. We have a preference for people in the central or eastern
US time zones just because it makes communication easier.

Skills:

  * Strong analytical and problem-solving skills - you get a kick out of
figuring out the ways that complex systems break
  * Very comfortable with the Unix command line and ad hoc reporting/filtering
tools to help you dig through logfiles, etc., in search of clues
  * Excellent communicator
  * Comfortable with metadata, XML, preferably also library-specific
technologies like MARC, DC, JavaScript, Perl, XPath and RegExp

Index Data is a small, international software development and service company,
currently counting 15 people in a close-knit virtual team with a 21-year
history of providing services and software to the global library industry. We
provide services to a broad range of corporate and library clients. We
collaborate through various tools, as well as occasional meetings around the
US and elsewhere. We provide a flexible work environment, and although we are
virtual, we enjoy a wonderful spirit of community, and we work hard to provide
opportunities for growth for everyone on the team.
