I still dont think it is working.  As a test I changed to using 
setBgColor()  I tried all three:
     this.getDialogStyle().setBgColor(0xFF0000);
    this.getStyle().setBgColor(0xFF0000);
    this.getContentPane().getStyle().setBgColor(0xFF0000);

And the result I get is:
