I'm probably way off base here but I think it might be to do with the fact that jbuf->jb_source in joinbuf_init (channel.c) gets filled with the contents of sptr from m_join (joinbuf_init(&create, sptr, cptr, JOINBUF_TYPE_CREATE, 0, TStime());) which I think is the senders name and as the sender would be a nick on the network and not a server it would appear that the person has opped themselves, but like I said I'm probably way way off base!
