The behavior you are referring to is not a bug, it is a lack of a feature. HIS_REWRITE is explicitly intended to affect rewriting of the origin of numeric protocol messages, and should never affect any other kind of protocol message. The correct solution for your problem is to create a new feature to control this behavior--maybe HIS_SERVERMODE?
