G'day Ken and all,

A Coding Dojo is a place where object oriented developers practise exercises, known as katas, together. Usually there is a coordinator and programmers team up in pairs to complete challenges. Pairs will often rotate during the event. There are no tasks that have one right way to complete them.

As you can tell, the idea draws inspiration from Karate, where repeating certain exercises increases your proficiency. More on Coding Dojos can be found at http://codingdojo.org/ - although this wiki is getting a little dated now, it still provides an excellent starting point.

Perl, C, and procedural languages usually aren't practised in a dojo, although theoretically it could be done. Whilst I also love Perl, languages like Java, Go and Python would be more suitable. (Yes, I know Perl can do OO and has great things like Catalyst, however it's not something I'd recommend in this context.) :)

Anyways, if there is anyone out there that would love to share my love of OO development and possibly have interest in learning development techniques and methodologies please let me know.

All the best,

Raphael

G'day all,

Does anyone here now of any coding dojos running, or is willing to participate in one?

Not sure I understand what you want.

Is there anyone that will help you. Yes there quite a few of us that
will help you. There is however such a broad range in 'coding' what are
you interested in, what languages, etc. You can ask questions here on
anything code related.

There are a few people in the slug meeting that can help and a quiet
coding area for you to work in. I am sure if you ask for help you can
get it easily.

I am always interested in helping, C, Perl, scripting. If anyone wants
to meet up I have been thinking of finding space near Heathcote and
running a coding session, Perl, C, script, anything else that others
come in a know. Heathcote is on way out to Wollongong and also
reasonably close to Liverpool if you drive so it covers people that are
not inner city.

I would like a session on Object Oriented programming in general at slug
again.

ta
Ken
