Title: Missing Issue

Kumar,

I would recommend reading the WEDI SNIP white paper on testing at http://snip.wedi.org/ .  If you go to www.claredi.com and link to ‘free stuff’ and then to ‘code lists’ there is a list of code lists required for HIPAA transactions and links as to where to get them.

Subject: Code set validation

Hello,

I am trying to understand the validation needs for HIPAA compliance from the code sets point of view and seek clarification on some questions:

1. As an integration software vendor will I be required to provide all code sets mandated by HIPAA and the implementation guides? Any exceptions? (For e.g. I think the DUNS number is something the provider will verify; my validation can stop with ensuring that the DUNS number is of the prescribed length and data type).

2. What is the nature of validation I will need to perform before sending or receiving messages? Will it be restricted to checking whether the content data element is available in the code set list or will it require additional validation?

3. Is there any comprehensive list of required code sets and sources?

I look forward to participating in discussions on code sets here.

Thank you,

Kumar Sivaraman
