Dave,

The FDS assembler can see the application scope with no problem.
The assembler is just a normal cfc with 4(or 5) methods.
Fill,sync,count,getItem (and fill-contains).
There are requirements for input parameters and returntypes but inside of each 
function you can use whatever you want.
