The two sides will instead meet on July 20, the statement read. FARC, the country's oldest and largest guerrilla army, and the government so far have negotiated a 12-point agenda encompassing political, economic and social reforms, modernization of the army, an anti-drug campaign and international relations. The talks were to take place in La Uribe, inside a demilitarized zone in the south of the country, a traditional FARC stronghold and a large coca-growing region. The zone came under rebel control in November 1998. Copyright 1999 Agence France Presse |
