2135 GMT, 990622 Colombia - Mario Carrascal, mayor of the town of Puerto Libertador in the Cordoba Department of Colombia, reports heavy casualties between paramilitary and guerrilla forces. Approximately 500 members of the Fuerzas Armadas Revolucionarias de Colombia (FARC) reportedly stormed the Nudo de Paramillo mountain range, the reported headquarters of paramilitary chieftain Carlos Castano. Eight peasants were reported killed in the FARC offensive.
