The
CIA said Friday that A.B. "Buzzy" Krongard, a longtime consultant to the spy
agency, will become its executive director, the agency's No. 3 position.
Krongard will replace David W. Carey, who will undertake several "special
assignments" for CIA Director George Tenet before moving to another
unspecified assignment, Tenet said in a brief announcement.
As the CIA's executive director, Krongard will essentially be its chief
operating officer. He has worked full time for the CIA since February 1998.
During a 29-year business career he served as chief executive officer and
chairman of the board of the investment banking firm Alex Brown Inc., and
vice chairman of the board of Bankers Trust. He served three years of active
duty with the Marine Corps.
