Queria compartir este comunicado de prensa (abajo) que el Padre Brian Jordan y yo
estamos circulando referente a una protesta pacifica que haremos el pr�ximo domingo 3
de febrero a las 2:00 p.m. en contra de la pelicula "Collateral Damage". La protesta
se realizar� en la Iglesia St. Francis of Assisi, 135 West 31st Street (entre 6a y 7a
Avenidas) en la Ciudad de Nueva York.

LA IGLESIA DE SAN FRANCISCO DE ASISI
Les escribimos con el motivo de pedir su apoyo para protestar una pel�cula titulada
"Da�o Colateral" donde protagoniza Arnold Schwarzenegger como un bombero de Los
Angeles. Su papel es de viajar a Colombia para vengar la muerte de su esposa y ni�os
a raiz de una explosion causada por un terrorista colombiano que detona una bomba en
un edif�cio en Los Angeles, California.
La pel�cula iba a estrenar en octubre de 2001 pero se pospuso debido a la tragedia de
las Torres Gemelas. Creemos que esta pel�cula tiene un tema discernidor y explotador.
Injustamente discrimina contra la mayor�a de los colombianos en Colombia y los
colombianos que viven y trabajan duro en el �rea metropolitana de Nueva York.
�Qu� comunidad inmigrante ser� la pr�xima en ser vilificadada por Hollywood como
antiamericana y que solo engendra terroristas y narcotraficantes? �Ya es hora de
desafiar estos falsos estereotipos!
Ademas esta pel�cula es ofensiva hacia el cuerpo de los bomberos, particularmente
hacia los bomberos que arriesgaron sus vidas y fallecieron el d�a la tragedia. Los
bomberos ponen sus vidas en peligro para salvar vidas en vez de quitar vidas. Cuando
el Presidente Bush se dirigi� en "El Sitio" el 14 de septiembre de 2001 el dijo,
"�Nosotros queremos traer aquellos responsables a la justicia y no la venganza
ilimitada!" Los E.E.U.U. cuenta con un ej�rcito especializado que est� listo, capaz y
deseoso de traer a aquellos terroristas a la justicia.
La pel�cula ser� estrenada el 8 de febrero nacionalmente. Por lo tanto, hacemos un
llamado para una protesta pac�fica el domingo 3 de febrero a las 2 p.m. en la Iglesia
de St. Francis of Assisi, 135 West 31st Street (entre 6a y 7a Avenidas), New York
York, NY 10001. La raz�n por hacer la protesta en la Iglesia es porque la comunidad
inmigrante y el personal uniformado atienden servicios all� regularemente. Pensamos
que no debemos demostrar frente a un teatro, lo cual le dar�a m�s publicidad a la
pelicula "Da�o Colateral". Nuestra posici�n es basada en los valores morales y la
dignidad de cada persona humana.
Hemos invitado a los miembros del Departamento de Bomberos ( F.D.N.Y.), las familias
de las v�ctimas de la tragedia, miembros de la comunidad colombiana y otras
comunidades inmigrantes del �rea de Nueva York para que juntos expresemos nuestro
disgusto y sentimiento hacia esta intolerable pel�cula.
Les agredecemos de antemano por su consideraci�n a este llamado. Que Dios nos bendiga
a todos.

SAN FRANCIS OF ASSISI CHURCH
We are writing to ask for your support to peacefully protest a movie titled
"Collateral Damage" where Arnold Schwarzenegger plays the role of an L.A. firefighter.
His role in the movie is to travel to Colombia to avenge his wife's and children's
death soon after an explosion caused by a Colombian terrorist who detonates a bomb in
a Los Angeles building.
The movie was supposed to be released in October of 2001, but it was postponed due to
the Twin Towers tragedy on September 11, 2001. We believe that this movie has a
discerning and exploitative topic. It wrongly discriminates against most of the
Colombians in Colombia and the Colombians who live and work hard in the metropolitan
area of New York.
What immigrant community will become the next target and be vilified by Hollywood as
anti-American and which only engenders terrorists and drug dealers? It is already
time to challenge these false stereotypes!
This movie is also offensive toward our brave firefighters, particularly to those who
risked their lives and those who perished the day of the tragedy. Firefighters put
their lives on the line to save lives instead of taking away lives. When President
Bush visited "The Site" on September 14, 2001, he said, "We want to bring those
responsible to justice and not to limitless vengeance!" The U.S.A. has a specialized
army that is trained, capable and anxious of bringing those terrorists to justice.
The movie will be released nationwide on February 8th. Therefore, we are calling for a
peaceful protest on Sunday, February 3rd at 2 o'clock p.m. in the Church of St.
Francis of Assisi, 135 West 31st Street (between 6th and 7th Avenues), New York, NY
10001. The reason to do a protest in the Church is because the immigrant community and
the uniformed firefighters attend daily services there. We believe that we should not
demonstrate in front of a theater, which would give more publicity to the movie
"Collateral Damage." Our position is based on moral values and each human being's
dignity.
We have invited the members of the Fire Department (F.D.N.Y.), the families of the
victims of the tragedy, members of the Colombian community and other immigrant
communities of the metropolitan area so that together we can express our displeasure
and feelings toward this intolerable movie.
We thank you in advance for your participation and consideration to this call. May God
