thanks mariusz,

"Collectd seonds only values, rrd files will be created on 'target'
So for each value only few bytes gets transferred."

so i am guessing that this process is:
a) continuous (perhaps coinciding with the interval rate) &
b) non-configurable

is this correct?

i am working with multiple clients that are on vsat and have bandwidth
limitations. so, i am trying to learn best practices to cut down on the
client-server communications.

thanks again,

-logan
