/etc/hosts:
On redhat it's
127.0.0.1 localhost.localdomain localhost
So it's the same for the extIP
XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX fqdn shortname
On Ubuntu the hostname is set in /etc/hostname (must be the short name)
On Redhat the hostname is set in /etc/sysconfig/network (must be the fqdn)

On Redhat/Centos the format could be very different but it should be:
127.0.0.1 localhost.localdomain localhost
XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX shortname fqdn
So make sure the fqdn is first and problem is gone :D

thing. On our CentOS boxes collectd is sending the servers FQDN vs
the short name. This doesn't happen on our ubuntu boxes. I've made
sure the FQDNLookup setting is set to false. Does anyone have any
