KEC 1007 Mon, 08/13/2018 - 9:00am Anicia Peters Executive Dean , Faculty of Computing and Informatics, Namibia University of Science and Technology Abstract: Gender-Based Violence (GBV) is a world-wide phenomena that occurs regardless of economic status, race, sexual orientation, religion, ages, nationality, etc. In Namibia, in particular, reports of GBV have increased dramatically over the last years. The seriousness of the issue has reached the highest levels of government and a national campaign is conducted. However, while the phenomena is being researched, but past interventions yielded little success, so the national campaign might risk being another awareness campaign. We are exploring the power of technology as intervention tool. We have developed an explorative technology installation to provoke and trigger transformation while simultaneously collecting essential data to inform future interventions. We created an African hut with traditional cultural artifacts and a role-playing application to stimulate conversation, raise awareness and influence behavior.
