Abstract:
Hydropower is the primary source of electricity in the Northwest and
continues to be a reliable source of electrical power, providing voltage
support and improving grid stability, in the region and around the world. The
experience of working in this industry has proven interesting and engaging in
the speaker's experience, and has provided many lessons and opportunity for
growth - both technically and professionally. This talk will provide an
overview of the hydroelectric generators, as well as a deeper dive into their
design and a sampling of projects and developments. Additionally, a number of
lessons learned and ideas to consider for current students of any technical
discipline will be discussed.
