Sean Brosig Electrical Engineer, , USACE - Hydroelectric Design Center, Portland, OR Abstract: Hydropower is the primary source of electricity in the Northwest and continues to be a reliable source of electrical power, providing voltage support and improving grid stability, in the region and around the world. The experience of working in this industry has proven interesting and engaging in the speaker's experience, and has provided many lessons and opportunity for growth - both technically and professionally. This talk will provide an overview of the hydroelectric generators, as well as a deeper dive into their design and a sampling of projects and developments. Additionally, a number of lessons learned and ideas to consider for current students of any technical discipline will be discussed.
