During OOoCon2007 I got a approach by a guy that wants to push the Romanian localization. Ian currently lives in Moldova and wants to give the choice of OpenOffice.org to people that want to learn computers in that country. Moldova, an ex region of Romania have two main languages, Romanian and Russian however he feels that the roots is Romanian and he wants to spur development in this area.
Some months ago we had someone from Moldova on the Romanian mailing list, I don't know it he is the same person, it was Oleg Burlaca and he wanted an spell/aspell dictionary.
Have anyone got any news from the Romanian team? I think the romanians
We don't have any news... we are in a somewhat stagnant status.
did a localization of 2.0 back in 2005 in Koper. However I haven't heard any continuation since then.
At the time we got help from the Romanian GNOME translation team, lead by Dan Damian and made a big translation push (including a translation marathon) but all slowed down very fast after that. Some months (a year?) later, Dan left and another guy, ghrt, took iver the translation coordination, but it goes at glacier speed.
There is a big leadership problem: we don't have a working infrastructure and we don't have anyone able to produce a build with whatever is translated so far. I tried to persuade the people leading translation to step up, get themselves listed in the language table (http://l10n.openoffice.org/languages.html) and ask for help with compiling/infrastructure from other NLC projects, but with no success.
Note: personally I don't have direct interest to use or lead the translation (but will help if someone lead it) and Cristian I believe is busy with its new career and was completely absent from the project for a long time.
We had last week a long thread about the localization status, I suggested a new leadership may improve the process but nobody want to take over.
Hope we can get to help Ian in his task.
Unfortunately we don't have anything ready and will not have in the near future.
