Yeah, but the cross-fade from rhythm&blues to soul was a long one, 
lasting several years. I myself use the term "rhythm&blues" to 
describe all kinds of rhythmic afro-american music. It describes so 
well all the stuff: soul, hiphop, funk, rap... (oh, and of course 
rhythm&blues... ;) They all use the rhythm as the very important 
ingredient. And they all are just grandchildren of blues.

So, in my brain, soul and hiphop are just sub-genres of 
rhythm&blues... I don't know, how orthodoxic categorization this is, 
but it helps _my_ thinking, so I don't care, whether it's the wrong 
way or the right way... ;)
