NEW YORK SPRAYED ARTIST W/ PESTICIDES
New York Health officials admitted they screwed up when city trucks
sprayed an artist with mosquito-killing pesticides.
Health Commissioner Neal Cohen said crews operating the bug-spraying
trucks were out on the streets two hours earlier than they were supposed to
be. As a result, the artist was sprayed on Sept. 3 while trying to use a pay
  telephone.
The New York Daily News reported the woman was ill for days, suffering
from nausea, dizziness, choking, itching and burning. She says she is
particularly upset because Mayor Rudy Giuliani initially ridiculed her. The
mayor now says he was given incorrect information by his staff about the
  woman's situation.
City officials have been spraying the pesticide throughout New York in
hopes of killing mosquitoes that carry the potentially deadly West Nile
  virus.
Cohen concedes the woman should not have been sprayed, but added he does
not believe there are any long-term health effects.

    POLICE CONFOUNDED BY CAT KILLINGS
Police in Dallas and a nearby suburb are unsure of what to think about a
rash of slayings that have taken place during the past three years -- 60
cats have been mutilated in North Dallas and Allen.
Police have few leads in any of the cat slayings. They're not even sure if
any of the cases are related.
The only thing police have ruled out is that it's not a coyote at work.
"We don't know if it's one or two people or a group of them," Dallas
  Detective Lane Weible said.
The Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals and the Humane
Society both have chipped in financially, offering an $8,000 reward to
anyone with information leading to a conviction in the cat killings.
Many area residents who have lost cats say people engaged in
pseudo-Satanic rituals may have used their pets for such purposes although
police have not been able to find any evidence to support the theory.
So for the time being, Texans are being urged to keep their cats inside.
