................................. To leave Commie, hyper to http://commie.oy.com/commie_leaving.html ................................. Pussyfoot Newsletter 10/00PUSSYFOOT NEWSLETTER - 10/00 * Greetings one and all... still feeling positively Olympian? After watching athletes of all kinds busting a gut with the added bonus of high-tech every-angle-cam pictures that made you feel like you were right there? What you were actually doing was slouching around on your sofa necking beers and shouting "WASS-UUUUUP!" like those boys in the new Bud ad. We've been hard at it too... Fragments is on-line at last, we've just set up the new Pussyfoot studio - fully operational as of this week so we're going to get started on a couple of Spacer remixes and the Stratus album shortly. Spacer's fresh from the success of his gig at the Thames Festival with The Orchestra but he's not resting up either - a gig at the 291 Club this Friday and another one with The Orchestra at the Royal Festival Hall on 18th November plus rehearsals for his solo club tour early next year. For all the latest news updates, release schedules, offers and other shameless exploits check out the site at http://www.pussyfoot.co.uk Spacer's flexing live once again... * Thanks to everyone that made it down to the Thames Festival the other week to catch Spacer and The Orchestra live on a floating barge in the middle of the river (I kid you not!) It was a great day, the sun shone and the drinks were flowing. If our Pussyfoot stall hadn't been located right next to the fun-fair it wouldn't have been perfect.. as it is we never want to see another carousel again! Spacer and the Orchestra are performing this Friday down at the 291 Club but the main event of this year is their gig at the Royal Festival Hall on November 18th as part of the London Jazz Festival. The night's called 'State of The World' and also features Badmarsh and Shri, Galactic and saxophonist Andy Sheppard. Spacer and The Orchestra are on stage at 8:30pm.. Make sure you get down there 'cos it's going to be really special. You can book tickets on 0870 906 3898 or at http://www.firstcalltickets.com or you can phone the Royal Festival Hall on 020 7960 4242 for more info. Alternatively you can call myself or Kate at the office on 020 7240 1700 or e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Fragments website is on-line... * Pussyfoot's sub-label Fragments is on-line at last... apart from our first EP we've got all the back catalogue in stock and operate a mail-order service. It's been a long time coming and there's still some sonic features to be implemented but it's up and running. As well as the critically-acclaimed Stratus 12" there's vital sounds from Nexus, Jackal, Magpie aka We Love You's Shawn Lee and more... go check it out at http://www.fragments.co.uk What's tickling our ears this month... * Various - 'Ross Allen presents Abstract Funk Theory' (Obsessive) - With one of the most all-encompassing radio shows around it's little surprise that Ross dishes up a suitably eclectic selection for his take on the 'Abstract...' series. Cornelius' 'Typerite Lesson' punches out the manifesto with automated irony while Norken's 'Southern Soul' is an undisputed techno soul classic - utter magic. The compilation is worth it alone for 69's 'Desire', one of Carl Craig's finest moments - a slice of machine-led funk that pushes a wailing synth through the octaves while solid steel drums kick out the pulse.. talk about making machines sing - Craig makes them scream. Personally it's the more techno-influenced cuts on here that float my boat but it's fair to say that's something here for everyone and Ross hasn't gone for the safe options either. Other gems come courtesy of Tom Middleton, World of Apples and Spacek. Rounding things off with Harry Roche's 'Spiral' into J Walk's 'Soul Vibration' it's a well programmed compilation to boot... nice sleevenotes as well! * 33.3 - 'Plays Music' (Aesthetics) - After their spartan but evocative self-titled debut 33.3 have added two new players to the fray (Joe Grimm - trumpet/trombone and Will Noland - upright bass) and the resultant sound flows more freely, with richly-textured jazz motifs juxtaposed against implicit post-rock that is skewed enough to hold your attention without ever becoming a soul-less exercise. Definitely worth seeking out. For more info contact [EMAIL PROTECTED] or check out the website at http://www.aesthetics-usa.com * In brief: Larmousse release their debut album on City Slang. Two blokes from Glasgow.. they penned this sublime record on Sundays in a rehearsal room but we'll forge 'em for working on the Sabbath. After the charms of 'A Universal Hello' put them on the map they now expand their territory with four richly textured (and epic) songs that blossom and fade with organic beauty. So much to say about this record but to be succinct: buy it! / Tim Hutton's album has finally arrived. 'Everything' is out on PIAS shortly - downtempo folk with soul and passion. The multi-talented Mr. Hutton will be playing near you soon - check him live too! / Manitoba is the brainchild of 22 year-old Toronto-based producer Dan Snaith. His 'People Eating Fruit' EP is out on Leaf on 30/10/00 and is well worth checking - warped electronics, playful compositions and plenty of innovation - just what we like! For more info on this and other Lea releases e-mail Lauren at [EMAIL PROTECTED] Other news... * Howie B has almost finished his fourth solo album 'Watermelon Sugar' which is due out on Polydor early next year. He's also been back in the studio with Atlas Record's Pete Hebert - a musical duo to be reckoned with... * Spacer has contributed a track to Nike's forthcoming PSA digital music player so you might find yourself working out to the sounds of Luke Gordon in the near future! * That's it for this month... for all of you who missed out on our album sale in September we've got more offers on the way.
