Based on what I can tell about the problems recorded in the sendmail logs,
it seems some of the free email services have started to use[1] mail systems
that do not work too well with sendmail. An example of this is HotBot.com.
I have seen many times that the connection to that site is hanging; however,
I have not seen that site to crash the sendmail in oy.com (or
gothic.moremagic.com, really). But some site seems to be causing that quite
often.
And what comes to the recovery, the sendmail process is restated every night
at 4am (GMT +2) for two reasons:
1) it seems to die every now and then (reason unknown)
2) I prefer re-building the email-adderss/alias databases explicitely
and that requires that sendmail is either HUPped or restarted
Please, be patient: I'm planning to update the Linux -set-up, the CPUs
and one of the slower hard-driwes in the near future[3].

[1] "Up-dated" to W2K ?
[2] Next time that I have some free time[3] in my schedule.
[3] What's that?
