An inflatable loudspeaker has been developed that should be light enough for anyone to carry. Conventional speakers have a "driver" and diaphragm that convert electrical signals into vibrations in the air. They need to be in huge boxes to create deep, loud sounds and absorb unwanted vibra- tions. Now two companies called SoundTube Entertainment in Utah and Ellula Sounds in Leicestershire have developed speakers that can be inflated on stage and deflated once the show is over.
