(attached picture: caption: "The engineer shows the vast scale of the rocket") Hitherto unseen pictures of the giant rocket that the Soviets hoped would help them beat the United States to land a man on the Moon have been revealed on a Russian website. Designed to lift the Soviet moon lander into space, the N1 was a titanic feat of engineering. Its first stage involved a cluster of 30 high-powered rocket engines using kerosene and liquid oxygen as fuel. The large number of engines was the rocket's fatal flaw. Engineers could not find a way to effectively balance the thrust of them all meaning that controlling the booster was impossible. [ before retouching: http://members.aol.com/nodin/N1pages/N1andPAD.gif after retouching: http://members.aol.com/nodin/N1pages/N1index1.html the first stage of America's moon rocket, the Saturn V, burned FIFTEEN FUCKING TONS OF FUEL PER SECOND. the USA could do it, and the commies couldn't. fuck'em. but maybe it was very simple, that the USA had better Nazis than the Rooskies did... ]
