there's some sci-fi reviews at

each review points to many other reviews,
so it's a good resource.

"The Dispossessed" by Ursula Le Guin is reviewed at
http://explorers.whyte.com/sf/disp.htm

this points to a "study guide" at

the review of "Dune" is at
http://explorers.whyte.com/sf/dune.htm
and points to two interesting pages.

Oct 7, 2001 : The Empire Strikes Back

How strange it is that a number of U.S. networks have chosen 'America Strikes Back'
as the title of the days events. Strange because the phrase, so far as I know, is
a play on the title of the second film of the Star Wars Trilogy, The Empire Strikes
Back. I don't imagine it is a conscious play on this, but rather that the phrase has
entered the cultural lexicon. Apparently it has been forgotten that The Empire is
Evil,
the great war machine run by Darth Vader. Remember that the hero, Luke Skywalker, came
from a desert planet. We have inadvertently cast bin Laden as a hero.

It surprised me, though, to find that the caves of Afghanistan were once part
of an ancient agriculture system. Like the giant 'sietch' caves of Dune, some
of Afghanistan's caves were once used to hold water.
