Hey - you're right! Pink Floyd had their Learning to Fly, too. Searching for the tune @ allmusic.com.... Found: http://www.allmusic.com/cg/amg.dll?p=amg&sql=HLEARNING|TO|FLY Tom Petty's version is credited to himself and Floyd version to them. So, Petty's "Learning to Fly" doesn't seem to be a cover version of Floyd's. The strangest thing is, that the tunes resemble each other very much. They sound almost exactly the same. As far as I can remember... > > BTW, check out the Johnny Cash version of "Learning to Fly". Played by him, > > the song reveals its true nature. At its heart, it's a good pop song. > > Producer just killed it in the original version. > >as it often was in the eighties - the decade of plastic-like sounds! studio >engineers are killing music! Well, they're more skillful nowadays. Top ten pop is even more plastic nowadays than in eighties. Listen to Britney Spears and then compare it to Duran Duran... The latter sounds almost _warm_ and _human_ after the comparison. >btw, i think the whole eighties revival is _horrible_! horrible sound >engineering, horrible fashion, horrible lifestyles.. How about New Order, The Smiths, Husker Du, The Pixies, The Cramps, etc? They were eighties, too... But I guess you meant the mainstream pop... ---> jab | commie | http://commie.oy.com "Less is moo." --- The Holy Mad Cow
