They say the roads are cleared for an excessive amount of time in advance of the motorcade and after it has gone by. Police cars always precede the motorcade, although they are not part of the president's official entourage. Correspondents say these vehicles have been known to delibe- rately crash into cars in their path as part of the security procedure, although this is the first time anybody has been killed.
