PTAL and let me know what you think, but I think it's no brainer. I opened a PR https://github.com/apache/airflow/pull/4543 to the main repo and wrote proposal describing my calculations and assumptions in detail in the AIP-10 proposal: https://cwiki.apache.org/confluence/display/AIRFLOW/AIP-10+Multi-layered+official+Airflow+image I am happy to discuss my findings tomorrow and I hope I can convince you that multi-layered approach is far better on general.
