I echo @ashb's sentiments as removing the motion/clutter was certainly part of the motivation for the removal in 2.0. The purpose of the button is open the Timezone switcher menu, so conveying the current timezone is the primary objective of the button label. Seems like it's fairly safe to assume that the vast majority of users have an operating system toolbar that can provide them a current (local) date/time. -- This is an automated message from the Apache Git Service.
