My impression is that `clear` is called on a task's xcoms before it runs.
This is to prevent data from a prior rerun from influencing the current task
execution. This way a task can assume that its XComs are always in a blank
slate, whether it's a run or a rerun.

I'll have an opportunity to verify this impression soon and I'll be sure to
report back and correct it if I'm wrong. I'll also let you know if I stumble
across an understanding of `delete`. (A guess it's that it's called when the
dag is deleted)
