(I haven't been following the context, so this suggestion may make no sense). One option might be to use savepoints -- ```sql SAVEPOINT before_lock; SELECT * from trigger FOR UPDATE; ROLLBACK TO before_lock; -- Lock would be released now. ``` That rollback would only work if there have been no changes flushed.
