It was not a priority, but the issue #24464 is still open and if someone wants to tackle it - they are free to do so. However we are now in stabilisation period, so I suggest anyone trying to approach it now to look at UI issues and help to solve them. This might help to better understand as well how our UI is built and will prepare anyone who wants to tackle this to implement it eventually (generally if somoene has an idea here, usually that someone has to either implement it or find someone who will do it, and the best thing is to implement it by those who need it) - we have > 3000 contributors and many of those were "scratching their own itch" - but in this case - I doubt maintainers of UI would like to add more complexity in the UI, before some of the important issues from 3.1 (where a lot of features have been added) are ironed-out and pass through "teething" process. I strongly recommend approaching it this way - help with finding and fixing current issues, and THEN thinking about adding more points of failure.
