A very good change but I think it requires discussions with release managers. Marking milestone is a clear statement that something is fit to a specific release minor/feature and that a committer verified it. Adding automatic milestone will not have the same level of confidence. Also, when merging PRs close to release date we sometimes miss the cut and thus adding the milestone to the next minor level though the current existed one still open. Having automation that sets milestone may actually result in a PR being missed. My proposal is to consider a label "candidate for next minor release" that way RM/committer can go over all the PRs tagged with it and make an inform decision about it. -- This is an automated message from the Apache Git Service.
