Backport of #71333 to `airflow-ctl/v0-1-test`. (cherry picked from commit 350ae2e10ac184113fa0aa08e72e72c672803e2a) Conflicts resolved by keeping the branch's existing `try/except` structure in `update()` and adding `exclude_none=True`.
