The `_self_configure()` approach this issue is a follow-up to (#69270) was never merged — `main` fixed #69172 differently, with each distribution calling `stats.initialize(factory=...)` explicitly at its own entry point (API server startup, task runner subprocess init) instead of the shared module dynamically importing core/sdk config. So `shared/observability/src/airflow_shared/observability/metrics/stats.py` already has zero `airflow.*` imports today. The one thing still true: it's listed in `check-airflow-imports-in-shared`'s exclude list in `.pre-commit-config.yaml` even though it no longer needs the exemption. Opened #74245 to drop it. --- Drafted-by: Claude Code (Sonnet 5); reviewed by @namanjain24-sudo before posting -- This is an automated message from the Apache Git Service.
