GitHub user CyberNativeAI added a comment to the discussion: Apache Airflow
Scheduler creates DAG Runs before their scheduled execution time — tasks stuck
with "Execution date is in the future"

We reproduced this on Airflow 2.10.5 (Postgres 15, `*/5 * * * *`,
`catchup=False`, `max_active_runs=1`) with only the Postgres clock 15 min ahead
of the Airflow hosts. Runs were queued up to ~10 min before their interval end,
went straight to `running`, and `airflow tasks failed-deps` printed your exact
"Execution date … is in the future" message. In a control without skew, no run
was early.

Cause: two clocks. Run creation filters `next_dagrun_create_after <=
func.now()`, the database clock (`airflow/models/dag.py` L4136). The scheduler
then holds the tasks while `execution_date > timezone.utcnow()` on its own host
(`airflow/jobs/scheduler_job_runner.py` L1703). Your UI message is the same
host-clock test (`airflow/ti_deps/deps/runnable_exec_date_dep.py` L33, L41). A
scheduler clock set ahead stalled creation in our test instead, so early runs
mean the DB clock leads the hosts. Pausing, reparsing, `max_active_runs` and
`dagrun_timeout` change neither clock, so they couldn't fix it.

Check: compare `select now(), clock_timestamp();` on the DB with `date -u` on
each Airflow host. While a run is early, the scheduler log repeats `Execution
date is in future: …`. This query flagged every early run and no control run:

`select run_id, data_interval_end, queued_at from dag_run where
run_type='scheduled' and queued_at < data_interval_end - interval '30 seconds'
order by queued_at;`

Your ~3 h offset is either the UI timezone or a DB clock about 3 h ahead; the
clock check and the query tell which.

Recovery without editing metadata: correct whichever clock is wrong. After we
removed the skew, the early runs ran at their logical time and new runs were
created on schedule.
