URL: https://github.com/apache/airflow/pull/74997

   ## What

`providers_compatibility_tests_matrix` now also drops the matrix entry whose
`airflow-version` equals the current branch version (`get_airflow_version()`),
in addition to the existing python-version filter.

   ## Why

   The version-bump commit that opens a `vX-Y-test` branch (e.g. `Update
version to 3.4.0`) adds the new `X.Y.0` to
`PROVIDERS_COMPATIBILITY_TESTS_MATRIX`, but `X.Y.0` is not published until GA.
Until then the OpenLineage e2e compat job (`docker build FROM
apache/airflow:X.Y.0-python3.11`) and the provider compatibility unit tests
(`pip download apache-airflow==X.Y.0`) both fail for the entire beta and RC
phase, leaving the release branch CI red exactly when it needs to be green to
cut the RC.

   This is self-maintaining:
   - **main** — a no-op (the matrix never contains the current dev version).
   - **vX-Y-test during beta/RC** — `X.Y.0` is skipped, so the compat jobs go
green.
   - **after GA** — once the branch bumps to `X.Y.1`, the released `X.Y.0` is
no longer the current version, so it runs again. No coverage is lost on
released versions.

Doc (`04_selective_checks.md`) and tests updated to match (per the
selective-checks sync rule in CLAUDE.md).

   No newsfragment — dev-tooling/CI change, not user-facing.
