Since the PROD image moved to hardened base images, `/usr/python` is a symlink to `/usr`. The build stage's `ENV PATH="/usr/python/bin:$PATH"` therefore puts Debian's pip ahead of the `~/.local` virtualenv. That pip's Python also sees `/usr/lib/python3/dist-packages`, so packages already there — `wheel` from Debian's `python3-wheel` — count as satisfied and never get installed into the virtualenv. The final image runs the virtualenv's Python, which does not see that directory, and `pip check` fails: ``` snowflake-snowpark-python 1.55.2 requires wheel, which is not installed. ``` Seen in "PROD image extra checks / pip-image / Build PROD pip image 3.11" on both `main` and `v3-4-test` (e.g. https://github.com/apache/airflow/actions/runs/39460224771/job/118773527475). The fix uses the same PATH order the main image already uses (virtualenv first). Reproduced on `ghcr.io/apache/airflow/base/python:3.11.17-debian13-dev`: with the current order `pip check` fails as above, with the virtualenv first it reports no broken requirements. 🤖 Generated with [Claude Code](https://claude.com/claude-code) -- This is an automated message from the Apache Git Service.
