Unbounded IO support in DirectPipelineRunner sounds like a separate work item.
We have actually been working on this for some time internally at Google. Filed
BEAM-22 to track that work specifically. (It will be part of the initial code
donation.)
SocketStream connector sounds like a nice idea! Scoping this issue to track
that work explicitly.
