#713: Remove temporary directories after unit test execution

The temporary environment directories are not removed after a unit test
run, and the multiproduct test suite creates dozens of temporary
directories for each run of the test suite. It was previously discussed on
the [http://markmail.org/message/mfwqrmlsgmj77p57 mailing list] how a
`_teardown_test_env` cleanup method could be added.
Several other minor changes to the test suite will also be committed
against this ticket.
