Write pid file before initializing Cassandra
--------------------------------------------
Key: CASSANDRA-947
URL: https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/CASSANDRA-947
Project: Cassandra
Issue Type: Improvement
Components: Core
Reporter: Johan Oskarsson
Some process monitoring tools such as monit relies on finding a pid file soon
after the service has been started. Cassandra currently writes the pid file
after reading commit logs, starting up the thrift service etc and since this
can take quite some time it leads to monit timing out and assuming the service
never got started, prompting several restarts until it gives up.
If we write the pid as soon as Cassandra starts this can be avoided.
