  Yes, but it's important that you do it correctly.
  
-  1. Restart and wait for the log replay to finish.
+  1. Empty the commitlog with "nodetool drain."

commitlog. (as of 0.6, you can do this using "nodetool drain")

   1. Delete the sstable files (-Data.db, -Index.db, and -Filter.db) for any 
CFs removed, and rename the files for any CFs that were renamed.
