Jeremy Hanna updated CASSANDRA-1031:
------------------------------------

    Comment: was deleted

(was: Laying aside arguments for and against, the request of the ticket is to
have a method to get the cassandra version via thrift so that it could be used
for a python based CLI. It seems odd to resolve the ticket with code that
would expose the cassandra version with JMX. I'm not sure how the JMX code
would help him - maybe there's a simple way to get JMX attributes in python.

If it shouldn't be necessary for the CLI, that's something else. In that case,
where it should only be exposed through JMX, who does it benefit - who would
use it?)

> I know I can get thrift API version.
> However, I writing a CLI for Cassandra in Python with readline support,
> and it will supports one-key deploy/upgrade cassandra+thrift remote,
> I need to get ApacheCassandra version to make sure it has deploy successfully.
> Please add Get **cassandra version** with thrift feature, thank you so much.
