I read through your patch:
0001-Add-handler-to-delegate-the-write-protocol-to-a-repl.patch
It makes sense and generalizes to 1072. I agree that it's better than the
current impl in 580.
If you don't mind, I'm working on integrating the above diff w/ 1072 logic,
