It's not a big deal and specific to our environment, but we're running
Cassandra with daemontools' `supervise`, so exiting Java would mean instantly
restarting Cassandra. Since we basically only decommission nodes to move them
in the ring and other such adminy things, this would mean fighting with
daemontools to stop it restarting while we edit the storage-conf or whatever
