Ah! I think I found the reason why Unsafe.allocateMemory is slower: It's in
{{os.cpp os::malloc}}. It uses two stat counters - one for # of allocations and
one for # of allocated bytes. If these might be interesting, we could prefer
Unsafe.allocateMemory over Native.malloc.
