move CQL from avro to thrift

Ultimately I'd like to create a custom transport for CQL, but in the meantime
it makes sense to use one of the existing RPC frameworks while concentrating on
the language and implementation. Of the two (Avro/Thrift), Thrift seems to
make more sense due to momentum.
