Could we have, for the records, a little bit more details on why this is
"Necessary for safe secondary index operation under the new API" (especially
now that the new API is committed)? Including the code that actually use this
would also help clarify why this is used/necessary for (again, I know the new
API wasn't previously committed, just saying it is now so would be nice to
update this accordingly).
