Benjamin Lerer commented on CASSANDRA-11935:
--------------------------------------------
I was not necessarily thinking about this ticket. For this ticket I believe
that we should go with native functions.
My concern is that today all functions are kept in memory even if they are
probably not use most of the time. As we keep on adding functions (which is not
in my opinion a bad stuff) the amount of memory that is used by functions keep
on increasing. I do not think that it is a problem right now but I think that
we should probably start thinking about using another approach (more on
demand).

> The goal of this ticket is to add support for arithmetic operators:
> * {{-}}: Change the sign of the argument
> * {{+}}: Addition operator
> * {{-}}: Minus operator
> * {{*}}: Multiplication operator
> * {{/}}: Division operator
> * {{%}}: Modulo operator
> This ticket we should focus on adding operator only for numeric types to keep
> the scope as small as possible. Dates and string operations will be adressed
> in follow up tickets.
> The operation precedence should be:
> # {{*}}, {{/}}, {{%}}
> # {{+}}, {{-}}
> Some implicit data conversion should be performed when operations are
> performed on different types (e.g. double + int).
