[~ptbannister] testing against both python2 and python3 is reasonably easy 
using tox and it sounds like supporting both is going to be the easiest path 
forwards until distros drop py27.

If you want help testing or reviewing let me know, happy to take a look or 
contribute test cases, just let me know where I can help.
