It sort of makes sense that differences might not be huge, with well-written
codecs and test.
One more thing that might be useful would be to add baseline of basic
JSON-based serialization (with Jackson, data binding), to see how much use of
binary formats helps.
If tests are easy enough to modify, maybe I'll try to add that.
