I have a different view than [~brandon.williams] :( . It makes sense to me to
test those metrics using distributed tests. So, I would not go for the approach
1).
Regarding python dtests vs in-JVM dtests, I do not have a strong opinion.
Learning how in-JVM tests works will always be useful anyway, so I let it up to
you.
